Waiting on Wednesday #3

So I've decided to do this the way that most people do via Breaking The Spine. I'm going to do one book I'm looking forward to with a release date in the next week. This week, I chose:

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
Release Date: April 1, 2014
Summary: It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more; though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was; lovely and amazing and deeply flawed; can she begin to discover her own path

  1. Great pick Victoria! I'm really looking forward to this one as well, it just has such an interesting premise. It's clearly going to be a darker story given the mention of abuse, but the dark stories tend to be the ones that stick with me the longest:)

    1. I agree! The darker stories can definitely be harder to read for me, but they have such an impact that they stick in my mind so much longer. Thank you so much for checking out my blog!

  2. SO can't wait to read it, especially because of all the reactions to it so far, sounds such an emotional one. :)

  4. I was tempted to get this one but I passed. I read a review on it the other day and the reviewer liked it but said it was so emotional and dark that it was difficult for her to read. I can't do emotional and dark right now so I am not reading this. I hope you like it.

    1. That's a good point you made, I'm glad you mentioned that! I'll be sure to hold off on it until I feel like I can handle emotional and dark. I'm glad that so many others seem to like it though, and I really do hope I like it too :)

  7. I've also heard this one can leave you emotionally raw. I'm not entirely sure I'm read for that kind of intensity. Maybe when I'm in the right mood. I hope you enjoy it.

  9. Ah, nice pick! I'm about halfway through right now, and although I don't normally like letters in books, for some reason, it's really working for me here. The writing is great, too--I hope you enjoy it when you get your hands on it!

    1. It's definitely harder for me to get into letter books than other books, but I really liked the concept of this one. I'm glad it's working for you! Hopefully it does for me too, I've heard so many great things about it!
